Features of the choice of jewelry
Jewelry is most often made of gold, silver, platinum. As well as metals belonging to the platinum group (palladium, rhodium, iridium).
Most often it is, of course, gold and silver. The rest of the above metals are used in precious alloys, primarily to improve the qualities and properties of precious metals (they give gold or silver hardness, luster, durability).
Each jewelry has a sample. A sample is a special brand that indicates the percentage of precious metal in the product. If there is no sample on the product, it means the product is a fake or it was made in a private workshop (in which you should have purchased jewelry).
Gold can be 999, 958, 750, 585, 500, 375 samples. The most common is 585, as it is ideally correlated in terms of price-quality.
If you prefer gold, then you should know that gold has several shades (they are given by metals in the alloy). In addition to the classic yellow color, jewelers use gold in other shades to create jewelry – red, pink, white and unusual green, blue, blue and even black.
If you want to buy a ring or earrings made of white gold, pay attention to the fact that white gold is somewhat more difficult to choose than other metals.
An essential advantage of white gold is that it does not scratch, as it is very hard. Of the shortcomings, a shade can be distinguished – yellowish or brownish. But this flaw is easy to fix. It is enough to choose a jewelry made of white gold with a rhodium-plated coating, which gives it brightness and brilliance.
Platinum is incredibly malleable, but at the same time very durable metal. Therefore, platinum makes complex frames for jewelry, which are very reliable and durable. Platinum is also the purest metal, so it is suitable for people prone to allergies.
Ruthenium and iridium (approximately 10% of the alloy) are usually added to platinum; this makes platinum jewelry very expensive.
Samples of platinum – 950, 900, 850.
Silver is a white metal with a very high, up to 95%, reflectivity. Silver is a malleable, ductile metal, it is perfectly polished, twisted, cut and even rolled out into the thinnest wire.
Silver is widely used for the manufacture of jewelry – earrings, rings, brooches, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, necklaces, chains, cufflinks, etc. This noble metal can be used in combination with gold, mobile, enamel, semiprecious and precious stones, mineral stones, ivory. Silver is considered the most democratic precious metal.
Samples of silver – 950, 900, 800, 720. “Standard silver”, i.e. the most common alloy in the world is 925 test. Gold Platinum Silver
Many jewelry has an insert of precious (diamond, emerald, sapphire and others) and semiprecious stones (jade, carnelian, turquoise, topaz). Mineral stone inserts (pearls, coral, amber) are also possible.
You can choose a stone based on your character, lifestyle or other preferences.
A diamond is a king among gems. When choosing this stone, pay attention to the cut, it emphasizes the luster of the stone. Traditional cut – 58 facets for a round shape. To evaluate the brilliance of a diamond should be in daylight – the only way to see the natural brilliance of the stone.
Diamonds come in different colors: distinguish between white, yellow, pink, blue, green, brown and even black.
The most expensive diamonds are either bright colors or completely colorless. The most expensive and rarest diamond is pink: 1 carat costs $ 1 million.
Another important criterion for choosing a diamond is its transparency. If imperfections and natural inclusions are visible to the naked eye, then the price of such a diamond will be relatively low. And vice versa, if the flaws are not visible with a 10-fold increase, then a diamond can be considered ideal and very expensive.
The weight of a diamond is measured in carats (this is what, first of all, all women pay attention to when buying jewelry): 1 carat is equal to 200 milligrams.
Emerald is a green gem with a yellowish or bluish tint. The latter are the most valuable and expensive. When choosing jewelry with this stone, pay attention to its color. It should be bright and clean.
Ruby. Real rubies have a pure red color without any shades. This stone, like a diamond, is very durable. The most common are rubies weighing 2 carats. There are stones of 5 carats, but rarely enough, and then their price exceeds even the cost of diamonds.
Jewelry with rubies should be stored separately from other jewelry.
Sapphire is a gem of blue color, but this is with a little consideration. In fact, sapphire can have more than 160 colors. It can be found in any color except red. Ruby is called “red sapphire,” since these two stones are related in origin.
