Phalanx rings

Phalangeal rings are miniature jewelry designed to be worn on the primary and middle phalanges of the fingers. It’s also a long and interesting jewelry story that turns a newfangled accessory into a piece of jewelry with a solid past.

Fashion history knows the incredible number of ups and downs of various accessories or clothing items. Depending on the general attitude – then on maximalism, then on minimalism, then on naturalness, then on austerity – then fluffy skirts, then flared heels, or jewelry that are worn in sets suddenly appear and disappear. But modest small phalanx rings are jewelry that has come a long way to fame, but today it deservedly remains at the peak of popularity. Inevitably stylish and unbroken rings on the phalanxes of the fingers today flaunt on many young ladies who know firsthand about jewelry trends. Varieties of such original accessories are amazing.

From Ancient Egypt to the Present: A Journey of the Phalanx Ringlet
Surprisingly, the phalanx rings, which are now chosen by the most fashionable girls, were first found in ancient Egypt. Of course, they looked slightly different and looked more like fingertips, but the idea was exactly the same: the desire to decorate not only the lower phalanx, but also the upper and middle. It is from that time that the difficult journey of the phalanx ring to fame begins.

Ancient Egypt. When archaeologists discovered the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun, they saw rings on the phalanges of the fingers of the Egyptian ruler. Further research confidently proves that such a style was absolutely natural for representatives of the royal nobility. In such a ring it was convenient to store all kinds of poisons and it is very easy to use them for their intended purpose.
Renaissance. The second rise in the popularity of phalanx rings falls on the Renaissance. If you pay attention to the paintings of famous artists, you can notice the fashionable phalanx rings with which the ladies of the Renaissance era adorned themselves. Of course, it was only and exclusively about noble persons. The fact that they wore such jewelry, as if additionally proved their high origin.
The second half of the twentieth century. They started talking again about a fashion accessory in the second half of the twentieth century. The then trendsetters – hippies – “reanimated” the rings on the phalanges of the fingers, and later, already in the 1980s, the punks seized the initiative. Years passed, fashion became “more serious”, and the notion of “informals” was entrenched for a long time to romantics from hippovskoy and punk culture. Until the beginning of the 21st century, all who dared to decorate themselves with such accessories inevitably evoked associations with the style of urban madmen. And then …
They say fashion trends are in the air, and the task of geniuses is to “smell” it and bring ideas to life. The year 2013 became such a turning point for unusual rings. At this time, three designers immediately presented to the general public models whose fingers were decorated in an unusual way.

Jean-Paul Gaultier with his “nail ring” was the first;
almost simultaneously with him, Nicolas Gesquiere, demonstrating the Balenciaga collection, put on the fingers of his models the original rings, which were called all-finger rings (that is, rings on all fingers);
finally, the great Karl Lagerfeld, showing the Chanel collection, uses rings on various phalanges.
So the new fashion is approved. Today the rings of Balenciaga are firmly entrenched in our lives, and Lagerfeld’s accessories invariably pop up in the memory of everyone who has ever seen a collection of the 2013 master model. It seemed to be incompatible here: the new way to wear jewelry was simultaneously defiant, but at the same time extremely concise and impeccably stylish. Such harmony gave an impetus to a whole trend in jewelry fashion. Today, rings worn on the middle and upper phalanges have an infinite number of variations. It is not very clear who loves these jewelry more – the fashionistas themselves or the jewelry designers who create them. Be that as it may, the phalanx rings have remained in trend for six years now and are only getting better. For fleeting fashion, this period is more than respectable.

As usual, the most famous women of fashion set the tone – star visitors to jewelry boutiques. If you want to understand how best to wear such rings, look at the celebrity photo:

Rihanna.
We understand the terms

Probably, to talk about what a phalanx ring is, it will be strange: this name is understandable and intuitive. If you are going to “ring” a finger in any unusual place – at the level of the middle or upper phalanx – then this is just this decoration. But often you can hear another concept – midi. This name came to us from the English language. This is the name of the ring that is worn on the middle phalanx (hence the midi – the middle). But in general, any phalanx decoration has now become the name. Although here is not without confusion.
